Maya HumanIK stop difficulties with the PN skeleton

New PN user, here. I don't have a ton of experience with setting up HumanIK in maya either. My problem is setting up the HumanIK character definition – when I select the hip joint on the fbx export from Axis to do the automatic setup and then "assign selected bone" in the HIK window, the Status reads "Missing required bones." I figured oh well, I suppose that means I'll be manually doing this. Unfortunately, When I try to assign the 3 spine joints above the hips, they only turn red with a Status that "One or more nodes are missing in the spine." Because of this, I am not able to lock this definition and move on to retargetting. Any help with this would be appreciated!

Can you confirm the version of Maya you are using?
