Refining retargeted BVH asset in Unreal

I have successfully imported and used a bvh asset in Unreal, but I noticed that my character's hands were rather messed up, even after carefully retargeting the joints (I'm using a Mixamo rig). Upon closer inspection I discovered that the Mixamo characters in the Unreal demo file have the same problem.

I've played with the retargeting in the Animation Blueprint, but haven't had any better results. From my experience in Unreal, standard animation files can be edited to adjust problems like this, but as far as I can tell, there is no way to do this with a bvh. Does anybody know if there is a way to refine these animations, or to refine the retargeting in the animation blueprint?

I am dealing with this same issue in Unreal. BVH is not responding to skeleton retargeting and my Mixamo character is very deformed.
